Stephen F. Austin has fired basketball head coach Kyle Keller after an 8-11 start to the season, with associate head coach Tony Jasick taking over as interim head coach.
Stephen F. Austin has parted ways with basketball head coach Kyle Keller, the program announced on Wednesday. The decision comes after the team's 8-11 start to the season, which includes a 1-7 record in conference play, ranking them second-to-last in the Southland Conference. The Lumberjacks are currently on a three-game losing streak, with their latest loss being a 79-59 defeat at the hands of McNeese State.
Associate head coach Tony Jasick will take over as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Athletic Director Michael McBroom expressed his gratitude to Keller for his contributions to the program, stating: “We want to thank Kyle for his positive contributions and leadership over the past nine seasons, including memorable and iconic wins at some of the most hallowed sites in college basketball that will forever be etched in SFA history.” McBroom also wished Keller well in his future endeavors, saying: “We wish him well in his future opportunities.”
Keller compiled an impressive 171-95 overall record during his tenure as the Lumberjacks' head coach. Under Keller's leadership, the team experienced only two losing seasons, the 2018-2019 season and the current season.
