Kompany Laments Wasteful Bayern After Shock Defeat to Feyenoord

Coach Vincent Kompany expressed his disappointment, saying, “I have to be honest, Feyenoord deserved their win. They fought hard and ran.” He acknowledged that his team had numerous chances, stating, “We had many chances. I felt we could have scored one, two or more goals. Feyenoord used their moments well.”

Feyenoord's efficiency in front of goal was a key factor in their victory, with Santiago Gimenez scoring twice in the first half before they added a third goal. In contrast, Bayern were repeatedly denied by outstanding Feyenoord keeper Justin Bijlow, who made several crucial saves, including stopping shots from Harry Kane and punching a point-blank header from Jamal Musiala over the bar.

The defeat dropped Bayern to 15th place on 12 points, while Feyenoord climbed above them into 11th place on 13 points. With one matchday remaining, the top eight teams will qualify for the round of 16, while the next 16 teams will enter a playoff. Kompany acknowledged that his team's performance was not good enough, saying, “Individually and collectively it wasn't enough from our side today.” He added, “We put the work in, we gave it our all, but the performance was not just good enough. We had our moments where we could have scored, but we did not make the most of them.”
