Feyenoord Makes History with 3-0 Win Over Bayern Munich
Feyenoord made history with a 3-0 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League, moving above the German giants in the standings and boosting their knockout stage hopes.
Feyenoord produced a stunning 3-0 victory over Bayern Munich at De Kuip, becoming only the third team to score and concede at least 15 goals in their first seven Champions League matches. This shock win propelled Feyenoord above Bayern Munich in the standings, keeping their hopes of automatic last-16 qualification alive.
The match got off to an unusual start, with play suspended barely five minutes in due to poor visibility caused by pyrotechnics released by Feyenoord supporters. The game resumed after a delay of over five minutes, with former striker Roy Makaay watching from the stands.
As expected, Bayern Munich dominated possession, forcing Feyenoord to defend centrally and pass the ball from side to side in search of an opening. However, against the run of play, Gijs Smal's wonderful ball over the top found Santiago Gimenez, who snuck between Kim Min-jae and Alphonso Davies to slam Feyenoord into the lead and spark wild celebrations.
Bayern Munich responded to the goal by mounting pressure on Feyenoord's goal. Kingsley Coman was twice denied by Justin Bijlow, who also made crucial saves from Harry Kane's bouncing strike and a powerful header from his own teammate Calvin Stengs.
Bayern Munich suffered a significant blow just shy of halftime when Alphonso Davies was forced off with a muscle injury, replaced by Raphael Guerreiro. To compound matters, Konrad Laimer's needless challenge on Stengs following a Feyenoord breakaway led to a penalty, which Gimenez tucked away in the ninth minute of first-half stoppage time.
Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany introduced Leroy Sane at the start of the second period, replacing Konrad Laimer. Meanwhile, Feyenoord was forced to make an injury-forced substitution, bringing on Chris-Kevin Nadje for Calvin Stengs. Despite the changes, Feyenoord exuded confidence, with Justin Bijlow superbly tipping over Jamal Musiala's header.
Although Bayern Munich continued to apply pressure, Feyenoord's commitment to their defensive cause was evident throughout. David Hancko excelled at centre-back, helping to repel the German giants' attacks. Bayern's inability to create clear-cut chances was partly due to their reluctance to go over the top of Feyenoord, which limited their attacking options.

Bayern Munich's lack of clinical finishing ultimately proved costly, as Feyenoord punished their wastefulness with a late goal. Substitute Ayase Ueda finished coolly from close range after referee Francois Letexier played an excellent advantage. This historic 3-0 victory propelled Feyenoord to 11th place, while Bayern Munich dropped to 15th after failing to score for the first time in 11 away games.
Feyenoord will conclude their league-phase campaign with a trip to Lille next Wednesday, while Bayern Munich will host Slovan Bratislava on the same evening. The outcome of these matches will determine the final standings in the group and the teams' prospects for advancing to the knockout stage.
