Feyenoord Signs Jakub Moder from Brighton: Polish International Excited for New Chapter

Polish midfielder Jakub Moder has joined Feyenoord from Brighton, citing the Dutch club's European ambitions and competitive level as key factors in his decision.

Feyenoord has officially announced the signing of Polish midfielder Jakub Moder from Brighton & Hove Albion. Moder, 25, has joined the Champions League outfit on a three-year contract, which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2028.

Although the transfer fee was not disclosed by either club, reports suggest that Feyenoord paid between 1.5 and 2 million euros to secure Moder's services.

Jakub Moder's departure from Brighton & Hove Albion comes after the midfielder struggled to regain regular playing time following a lengthy knee injury. The 31-time Polish international made just seven appearances in all competitions for Brighton this season.

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler praised Moder's professionalism and wished him well in his future endeavors. “He has recovered brilliantly from a serious knee injury; he wants to cement his place in the Polish team and it's understandable he wants to play more games,” Hurzeler said in a club statement. “On behalf of everyone here, I'd like to thank him for his service to the club. He's been a top professional to work with, and I wish him all the best for his future.” Moder ultimately played a total of 71 games for the Premier League side during his time at the club.

Jakub Moder expressed his excitement about joining Feyenoord, stating, “It all happened pretty fast.” He shared his enthusiasm for this new chapter in his career, saying, “I am very excited about this new step; I felt I was ready for it.” Moder acknowledged that this move represents a new challenge, but one that he is eager to undertake. “It is a new league for me, a new club, but at the highest level,” he noted.

Moder revealed that he had heard positive stories about Feyenoord from fellow players, including Mats Wieffer, Yankuba Minteh, and Sebastian Szymanski. He has been assigned the number 7 kit, previously worn by Alireza Jahanbakhsh, another former Brighton player.

Moder recognizes that adapting to his new surroundings will take time, but he is eager to make an impact. “Of course it will take some getting used to playing soccer here, but I hope to show what I have to offer as soon as possible,” he said. Moder emphasized his desire to contribute to Feyenoord's success, particularly in European competitions. “Feyenoord is a big club that competes at the European level every year, so I look forward to being there on that stage as well.”

Moder will have to wait until next month to make his official Feyenoord debut, as he is not registered for the club's Champions League campaign. He will be cheering on his new team from the sidelines for the upcoming matches against Bayern and Lille. Moder expressed his eagerness to join the team on the field, saying, “The next two games against Bayern and Lille will still be as a supporter, but after that hopefully on the field.” He emphasized the importance of winning, stating, “There is a lot to play for and in the end it is only about one thing: winning as often as possible.”
