Daniel Jones Joins Minnesota Vikings Ahead of Wild Card Matchup

The Minnesota Vikings have signed quarterback Daniel Jones to their active roster, adding depth to the position ahead of their Wild Card matchup.

Vikings Add Quarterback Depth with Daniel Jones

The Minnesota Vikings have made a key addition to their roster ahead of their Wild Card matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. On Tuesday, the team signed quarterback Daniel Jones, 27, to the active roster. Jones was originally signed to the Vikings' practice squad on November 27th, following his release from the New York Giants.

Jones to Serve as Backup Quarterback

With his promotion to the active roster, Jones will join Nick Mullens as a backup option for starting quarterback Sam Darnold. This move provides the Vikings with added depth at the quarterback position as they prepare to face the Rams on Monday night.

Vikings Coach O'Connell Excited to Work with Daniel Jones

Minnesota Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell expressed his enthusiasm for working with newly signed quarterback Daniel Jones. “I've always been a fan,” O'Connell said. “Love, really liked the person, the human being, the makeup, and then the player, Daniel Jones. I think there's so much out in front of him that are going to be really good things that we get to personally be a part of, and I can't wait to work with him.”

Vikings Successfully Hold On to Daniel Jones

The Vikings were able to retain Daniel Jones on their practice squad for the past three weeks, despite other teams having the opportunity to claim him. However, the condition for claiming Jones off waivers was that the acquiring team must have an injured starting quarterback. Fortunately for the Vikings, no team met this condition, allowing them to promote Jones to the active roster and add depth to their quarterback position.

Daniel Jones' Future Plans

Quarterback Daniel Jones is poised to enter the free agency market at the end of the season, becoming an unrestricted free agent. This development comes after Jones reportedly expressed his desire to join a Super Bowl contender, ultimately leading him to the Minnesota Vikings, one of the top teams in the NFC, from the struggling New York Giants (2-8).

Jones' Statistics This Season

Jones' performance this season has been marked by mixed results. He has accumulated 2,070 passing yards, accompanied by eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. However, his passer rating stands at a modest 79.4, while his quarterback rating is a concerning 46.3. Despite these statistics, the Vikings have seen potential in Jones and have added him to their roster.
