Las Vegas Raiders Part Ways with Head Coach Antonio Pierce
The Las Vegas Raiders have fired head coach Antonio Pierce after just one season at the helm. Pierce, 46, led the team to a disappointing 4-13 record in his first full NFL season as head coach. The decision was announced by the Raiders on Tuesday.
Raiders Express Gratitude for Pierce's Leadership
In a statement, the Raiders expressed their appreciation for Pierce's leadership and dedication to the team. “We appreciate Antonio's leadership, first as an interim head coach and this past season as the head coach,” the statement read. The team also acknowledged Pierce's deep connection to the Raiders, saying, “Antonio grew up a Raiders fan and his Silver and Black roots run deep.” Furthermore, the Raiders praised Pierce's ability to reinvigorate the team's identity, stating, “We are grateful for his ability to reignite what it means to be a Raider throughout the entire organization.”

Antonio Pierce's quarterback strategy involved starting veteran Gardner Minshew at the beginning of the season. However, after just five games, Pierce made the decision to bench Minshew. He then turned to O'Connell, but the quarterback struggled to find his footing before suffering an injury in week seven. Minshew subsequently regained the starting position, but his season was ultimately cut short due to injury.
