Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has issued a stern challenge to his squad's leaders, urging them to take charge and support teammates who are struggling with their performance. Amorim expressed concern that some players are “too afraid to play football,” which is hindering the team's overall progress.

Since Amorim's appointment in November, Manchester United has endured a dismal run of form, plummeting to 14th in the Premier League standings. The team has suffered five defeats in their last six league matches, intensifying the pressure on Amorim and his squad to turn their season around.

Ruben Amorim revealed that his players are often overcome with fear during matches, saying “They are sometimes afraid on the pitch,” ahead of their challenging away game against league leaders Liverpool on Sunday.

“So we have to cope with that. We need the leaders to step up to help the other guys – and I'm the most responsible person here to improve the performances.

“You can see the players are trying. Sometimes they are too anxious and too afraid to play football because this is a difficult moment.”

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has opened up about the immense pressure he is facing in his role, admitting that the strain of managing the club has taken a visible toll on him. “You can see in my face, you can compare the way I arrived and now,” Amorim said, highlighting the impact of the job on his well-being.

Amorim acknowledged the difficulties of coping with the pressure of managing United, particularly in the face of poor performances and losses. “Of course when you are (losing) there is a lot of pressure. It is hard to cope with all the problems, the bad performances and the losses, it is really hard,” he said. However, Amorim expressed optimism that spending time with his players and having his family's support would help him navigate these challenges. “It is supposed to be really hard. The only thing that can help me is training with the players and I also have my family now here so it's so much different, it can help me,” he added.

Looking ahead, Manchester United faces a daunting schedule, with a clash against Liverpool followed by an FA Cup tie against Arsenal on January 12. Amorim will be hoping to turn his team's fortunes around and alleviate some of the pressure he is under.
