Rashford Dropped: Amorim Demands More Responsibility from Manchester United Star

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has dropped Marcus Rashford from the squad, citing the need for greater responsibility and engagement from the talented striker.

Manchester United will spend Christmas Day in a dismal 13th place, their lowest position on December 25 since 1986, when they were 15th during Alex Ferguson's early days in charge. Manager Ruben Amorim acknowledged the gravity of the situation, stating, “This is maybe one of the lowest moments in our club. We have to face it and be strong.”

Amorim was questioned about the team's lack of substantial progress, despite his efforts since taking over. The Portuguese manager responded candidly, saying, “If I knew, I would solve all the problems of this club, even this (leaky ceiling).” His comment highlighted the complexity and depth of the challenges facing Manchester United.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim admitted on Tuesday that he's finding it challenging to get into the holiday spirit, given the team's persistent struggles. Despite his frustration, Amorim expressed confidence in his ability to turn things around and address the club's problems.

Manchester United will face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Boxing Day, seeking to rebound from their recent back-to-back defeats. When Amorim took the reins last month, the team was languishing in 14th place. Since then, United have played six league games under his management, yielding two wins, three losses, and one draw.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim provided an update on the team's injury situation, confirming that defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Victor Lindelof are still sidelined. In light of this, Amorim plans to make adjustments to the squad to minimize the risk of new injuries.

Amorim emphasized that his squad rotation is currently driven by injury prevention rather than experimentation or long-term planning. “In this moment it's not rotation to see the players and prepare the future (but) simply to not have injuries,” he explained. Amorim acknowledged that the team is working to address its various challenges, including injuries, which could hinder their progress. “We are trying to address everything. I know that there is a long-term project and we are focused on that. If we have injuries it's a big problem.”

“I know what I am going to do. That is so clear for me. I will not say I am feeling relaxed because I am really frustrated. It is a very difficult moment but we will solve problems step by step and find answers for everything.

“I just want to win. I don't care about Christmas. I'm just focused on we need to win the next match. That's the only thing I care about.

“We are privileged (in England) we can play on Boxing Day to give some happiness to the fans and we want so bad to win it.”

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has made the notable decision to drop Marcus Rashford from the squad for the last three games across all competitions. This move comes after Rashford expressed his desire for a “new challenge,” prompting Amorim to question the decisions and guidance surrounding the 27-year-old striker.

Amorim emphasized the need for Rashford, a United academy product with considerable talent, to demonstrate greater responsibility and engagement. “Some guys have a big responsibility here because they have been here for a long time,” Amorim stated. He further stressed that in order to drive the team forward, especially during challenging times, Rashford must deliver “big performance, big responsibility, [and] big engagement” to set an example for others.
