Postecoglou Blames Injuries for Tottenham's Poor Run

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has attributed his team's poor form to an injury crisis, following a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou attributed his team's dismal run of form to an ongoing injury crisis, following a 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest on Thursday. This latest setback marked Tottenham's ninth loss in 18 Premier League games this season.

The defeat has left Tottenham languishing in 11th place in the Premier League standings. Postecoglou's side has struggled to find consistency, and the injury woes have undoubtedly exacerbated their challenges.

Despite their Premier League struggles, Tottenham has shown promise in other competitions, advancing to the League Cup semi-finals and positioning themselves favorably to reach the Europa League knockout stage. These successes, however, have come at a cost, as the additional fixtures have increased the burden on a depleted Spurs squad.

Tottenham's injury woes are a significant concern, with several key players sidelined, including first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and centre-backs Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Ben Davies. This lengthy injury list has forced Postecoglou to navigate a challenging period, juggling his squad's limited resources to maintain competitiveness across multiple fronts.

Tottenham's defensive woes have deepened ahead of Sunday's match against Wolves, as Djed Spence received a red card in stoppage time, further reducing Ange Postecoglou's options. To compound matters, Radu Dragusin, the club's only fit natural centre-back, was forced to exit the game late on due to injury.

Postecoglou provided an update on Dragusin's condition, saying, “He (Dragusin) was a bit sore. He hurt his ankle and said he couldn't continue, so we'll have to wait and see.” This uncertainty surrounding Dragusin's availability has added to the managerial challenges facing Postecoglou as he prepares for the upcoming match against Wolves.

Anthony Elanga's decisive first-half goal propelled Nottingham Forest to third place in the Premier League under the guidance of former Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo. Despite dominating possession with over 70% of the ball, Tottenham were unable to capitalize on their opportunities at the City Ground.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou acknowledged the challenges his team faces due to a congested schedule and injuries. He stated, “We are asking a lot of this group of players, a lot of these guys are playing every three days. It's only logical they are not going to be at their sharpest, but they are trying.” Postecoglou also reflected on the goal conceded, saying, “A disappointing goal we conceded, but aside from that the boys worked hard and we tried to generate as many opportunities as we could considering the context of the game and how Forest play. We just couldn't get over the line.”
