No Joint Ticket: Atiku, Obi Camps Dismiss 2027 Election Rumors

Atiku, Obi Deny Plans for Joint Presidential Bid in 2027

“No, there was nothing like that. They just invited him (Obi) to deliver a speech there. It has nothing to do with...”

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party's Peter Obi have denied rumors of a joint presidential bid for the 2027 election, following a recent meeting in Adamawa.

The camps of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party's 2023 presidential flagbearer, Peter Obi, have denied rumors of a joint presidential bid for the 2027 election. This comes after the two met at Atiku's residence in Adamawa State, sparking speculation about a potential alliance.

Photos and videos of the meeting spread quickly on social media, fueling rumors of a joint ticket. However, both camps have since denied these claims, putting the speculation to rest. The meeting was reportedly a casual breakfast gathering hosted by Atiku.

It's worth noting that this development comes on the heels of a statement made by the Deputy National Spokesman of the PDP, Ibrahim Abdullahi. A few months ago, Abdullahi announced on a live political program that leading opposition figures were exploring the possibility of a merger to address the country's challenges.

“The university was founded by Atiku Abubakar, who was more like his host. But people think it is because of politics. We all know our friends. The truth is that politics cannot separate friends.

“So Atiku invited him to breakfast and from there, they went for the programme. I think that is what happened.“

Ibrahim Umar, Peter Obi's media aide, has dismissed speculation that the recent breakfast meeting between Obi and Atiku Abubakar in Adamawa was a precursor to a joint presidential ticket in 2027. Umar described it as laughable that Nigerians always assume a political motive behind every meeting involving high-profile party members like Obi and Atiku.

“No, there was nothing like that. They just invited him (Obi) to deliver a speech there. It has nothing to do with politics. Of course, you know people will always assume things,” he explained.
