EPL: Spurs Players Rally Behind Postecoglou

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou faces growing pressure amidst the team's poor form, but players remain united behind him.

Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has issued a rallying cry to his teammates, urging them to “step up” their performance amidst growing pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou. The call to action comes after Sunday's thrilling 4-3 loss to Chelsea, which saw Spurs tumble to 11th place in the Premier League.

Son, who scored a consolation goal in stoppage time, witnessed his team's fortunes take a hit with the early injury exit of centre-back Cristian Romero and the late departure of defender Micky van de Ven. The setbacks further compounded the challenges facing Postecoglou, whose managerial future is increasingly under scrutiny.

Tottenham Hotspur's recent form has been a cause for concern, with the team securing only one win in their last seven matches across all competitions. In light of this challenging period, captain Son Heung-min emphasized the importance of unity within the team.

According to Son, it is crucial for the team to remain cohesive, especially during difficult moments. ”We got to stick together in such difficult moments, it's very important and it's why we need big support,” he expressed in an interview with Sky Sports. Son also acknowledged the youthfulness of the team, stating, “The players are very young and they need support more than we have had before.” While praising the fans' unwavering support, Son urged his teammates to take responsibility, saying, “The fans were always supporting amazingly but I think it's time the players also need to step up.”

Australian manager Ange Postecoglou is currently in his second season at Tottenham Hotspur. Despite the team's recent struggles, defender Cristian Romero has expressed his admiration for Postecoglou, describing him as a “great coach.” Romero attributed the team's challenges in the second season to a multitude of injuries.

In an interview with Telemundo, Romero defended Postecoglou and his staff, emphasizing the players' appreciation for their coaching methods and style of play. Romero stated, “Players are the first one to be criticised, then if we lose 10 games, the staff can be changed, but nobody talks about what is actually happening.” He continued, ”We are very happy with this staff, me and my colleagues. We love how they work and the football they try to play.”

Tottenham Hotspur will face Scottish side Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday, followed by a Premier League match against Southampton on Sunday.
