Inter Milan delivered a devastating first-half performance, scoring five goals to demolish Hellas Verona. Marcus Thuram led the charge with a brace, while Tucu Correa marked his first start since 2022 with a goal and two assists. Stefan de Vrij and Yann Bisseck completed the rout.
Inter was forced to make changes due to injuries, with Hakan Calhanoglu sidelined by a muscular issue and Lautaro Martinez out with flu symptoms. As a result, Kristjan Asllani and Tucu Correa received rare starts, alongside returning player Carlos Augusto. Meanwhile, Hellas Verona was without several key players, including Ondrej Duda, Diego Coppola, Juan Manuel Cruz, and Martin Frese.
Despite being without several key players, Verona started strong, creating a big chance in the fifth minute. Yann Sommer fumbled a glancing header from Flavius Daniliuc on a free kick, and moments later, Casper Tengstedt hit the frame of the goal on a pull-back from the right by Jackson Tchatchoua.
Inter swiftly responded to Verona's early chances, with Tucu Correa's header bouncing off the bar from close range. Moments later, Carlos Augusto hit the side-netting after latching onto Alessandro Bastoni's ball over the top.
The substitution of Francesco Acerbi, who went off injured, proved pivotal. His replacement, Stefan de Vrij, played a crucial role in setting up Inter's opening goal just minutes after his introduction.
The goal was a masterpiece of teamwork, initiated by Correa's clever dummy that allowed the pass to reach Marcus Thuram. Thuram promptly laid the ball off for Correa, who continued his run and finished with a delightful dinked effort over Lorenzo Montipò.
Tucu Correa's goal marked a special moment, as he had also scored a brace on his Inter debut at the Bentegodi in August 2021.
Tucu Correa continued to impress, repaying the favor to Marcus Thuram with a well-weighted through ball that sent the striker clear on goal. Thuram drew out the goalkeeper before calmly depositing the ball into the empty net.
The Hellas Verona defense was again caught out, this time by Thuram's pace and Bastoni's assist. Domagoj Bradaric was left stranded, allowing Thuram to beat Montipò one-on-one and double Inter's lead.
Verona's defense began to unravel, and Inter capitalized on their opponents' misfortunes. By the 30-minute mark, Inter had extended their lead to 4-0. Kristjan Asllani's corner was not cleared properly, and Stefan de Vrij swept in the loose ball with a first-time finish from 14 yards.
Hellas Verona's woes continued before halftime, as Yann Bisseck added Inter's fifth goal. Bisseck gathered a pass from Correa, turned Dawidowicz with ease, and managed to scoop the finish into the net while falling to the ground.
Suat Serdar's impressive turn between two defenders created a scoring opportunity for Verona, but his effort was deflected inches wide by a Inter defender. Reda Belahyane's clever play had set up the chance.
Despite making four changes at halftime, Verona's fortunes did not immediately improve. Inter nearly scored their sixth goal shortly after the restart, as Piotr Zielinski's volley forced the goalkeeper to make a sharp save.
As the match entered its final stages, Inter shifted to a four-man defense to protect their substantial lead. The team also gave Tajon Buchanan his season debut, following his recovery from a fracture sustained during training with Canada.
In stoppage time, Tucu Correa had a chance to score his second goal of the match, but his effort was again denied by the woodwork, a frustrating end to an otherwise impressive performance.
Parola al Tucu won player of the match.
