LaLiga: Las Palmas End 37-Year Wait for Win at Barcelona with 2-1 Victory

Las Palmas stunned league leaders Barcelona with a 2-1 win, thanks to goals from Sandro Ramirez and Fabio Silva, to secure their first win at the Camp Nou since 1986.

Fabio Silva scored the decisive goal as Las Palmas pulled off a stunning 2-1 upset over league leaders Barcelona. This victory marked Las Palmas' first win at Barcelona since 1971 and propelled them five points clear of the LaLiga relegation zone.

Las Palmas began the match at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys with a strong attacking intent. Sandro Ramirez made a promising run into the Barcelona area, finding Javier Muñoz with a precise pass. However, Muñoz was unable to direct his header on target, squandering an early scoring opportunity for Las Palmas, who have struggled to find the back of the net this season in LaLiga.

The opening 10 minutes of the match were marked by an end-to-end contest, with both teams creating scoring opportunities. Barcelona's Fermín Lopez came close to scoring with a first-time shot from a tight angle, but Jasper Cillessen made a crucial save to deny him.

Despite their impressive attacking record at home, having scored 20 goals in their previous five matches, Barcelona struggled to find the finishing touch against Las Palmas. Raphinha, Jules Kounde, and Pau Cubarsi all squandered good opportunities in and around the Las Palmas penalty area, leaving the LaLiga leaders vulnerable to a counter-attack.

Las Palmas nearly capitalized on Barcelona's wastefulness, with Fabio Silva's curling shot forcing Inaki Pena into action. As the half drew to a close, Barcelona increased the tempo, and Raphinha rattled the crossbar with a fierce strike from just inside the area.

As Barcelona gained control of possession in the second half, Las Palmas caught the hosts off guard, scoring their first goal in Catalonia since 2015. The visitors' goal was the culmination of a well-crafted move that began with goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen and ended with Kirian Rodríguez releasing Sandro Ramírez, who fired a precise shot into the bottom corner past Inaki Pena.

Although Las Palmas had achieved a significant milestone, they still had a long way to go to secure their first LaLiga win over Barcelona since 1986. The visitors were unable to prevent Raphinha from equalizing just after the hour mark, as his swerving shot found its way into the corner of the net.

However, Las Palmas continued to pose a threat, and Fabio Silva eventually restored their lead. Silva shrugged off Pau Cubarsí and volleyed home his fourth away goal of the campaign, giving Las Palmas a crucial advantage.

As expected, Barcelona intensified their efforts to score another equalizer, with Raphinha coming close from a free-kick. However, the hosts were unable to beat goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, ultimately suffering their first home defeat since August.

Diego Martinez's Las Palmas made the most of their scoring opportunities and capitalized on their solid away form, which has seen them win five of their seven matches on the road. This impressive performance has propelled the Canarian outfit into LaLiga's mid-table, marking a significant improvement in their standings.
