Ruben Amorim Eyes Manchester United Clearout: 28-Year-Old Star Faces Exit.
Manchester United's incoming head coach, Ruben Amorim, has reportedly lost faith in goalkeeper Andre Onana. The Portuguese tactician views Onana as surplus to requirements and wants to offload the 28-year-old Cameroon international.
Amorim seeks a reliable goalkeeper with exceptional shot-stopping skills and minimal error propensity. Onana's struggles with consistency and mistake-prone performances have raised concerns. His style doesn't align with Amorim's preferred system.
Interest in Onana is growing, with Premier League, Serie A, and LaLiga clubs monitoring the situation. If made available, these teams may make a move for the former Ajax goalkeeper.
In a recent BBC interview, Onana discussed adapting to Amorim's tactics, saying: “[I'm] working hard to understand the new system... We'll see how it goes.” Onana's comments come amidst uncertainty surrounding his future at Old Trafford.
“I did watch the game yesterday. Great victory from them [Sporting), by the way. Different system, but the players, my teammates, we are all pragmatic. I think everyone here is capable to play in each system, so I don't think this will be any issue for us. We have big players, so they will step up.”
Andre Onana faces an uncertain future at Manchester United with incoming head coach Ruben Amorim reportedly keen to replace him.
Former Manchester United midfielder Jose Kleberson has expressed surprise at the club's decision to appoint Amorim, suggesting Ruud van Nistelrooy would have been a better fit.
“Ruud van Nistelrooy knows the club inside out, which would have given him an edge,” Kleberson told UNIBET. “While Amorim is an excellent tactician, Van Nistelrooy's familiarity with Manchester United's culture and values would have made him an ideal choice.”
Klberson praised Amorim's credentials but emphasized Van Nistelrooy's deep understanding of the club would have facilitated a smoother transition.
“I would like to see Ruud be the manager of United, 100 percent - he has a passion for the club. He has a lot of stuff from Ferguson, and I know that they have spoken a lot from being there together. The biggest thing is that Ruud knows the culture of the club, that Ferguson helped put in place.
“He knows the club, and can make change and the players will listen to him more because he was a great player and goal scorer in the history of the club. Ruud would know how to play the locker room, how the guys are feeling, and whilst I love Amorim as a young coach and the amazing things that he has done at Sporting, I really would have loved to have seen how Ruud would do as manager.”
