UNN Dean Kidnapped: Professor Oguejiofo T. Ujam Abducted Along Ugwuogo-Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road
On Sunday, October 27, Professor Oguejiofo T. Ujam, Dean of the School of General Studies at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), was abducted along the Ugwuogo-Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road.
Professor Ujam, a senior lecturer, is the latest victim in a string of kidnappings that have plagued the area over the past week.
According to Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, a social media influencer, “Professor Oguejiofo T. Ujam was kidnapped on Sunday along Ugwuogo-Nike-Opi-Nsukka road.” Ugwuanyi shared the disturbing news on his Facebook page.
The kidnapping of Professor Ujam has raised concerns about safety along the Ugwuogo-Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road and the university community's vulnerability to such incidents.
Professor Oguejiofo T. Ujam, a lecturer in the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry and Dean of the School of General Studies at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, was kidnapped on Sunday.
A colleague pleaded for prayers, saying, “Our prayers are needed for his safe return to us, unharmed.”
Confirming the incident, a lecturer shared a post from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), UNN chapter's WhatsApp page, which read: “Professor Oguejiofor Ujam, the Dean of General Studies was kidnapped this morning along Opi-Enugu Road. Please, we need urgent help.”
The kidnapping has sparked concerns about the escalating abductions along Ugwuogo-Opi-Nsukka Road, despite numerous police and military checkpoints.
According to reports, hoodlums have been abducting multiple road users daily over the past week, raising alarm among locals and university staff.
