Explore the latest on Bobrisky's bribery scandal, involving EFCC and Nigerian Correctional Service officials.

Nigeria's House of Representatives has summoned key figures, including EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, Bobrisky, and activist Martins Otse (aka Very Dark Man), over a bribery scandal involving EFCC officers and the Correctional Service. This move follows a viral social media audio clip where Bobrisky alleged that EFCC officials extorted N15 million from him to drop money laundering charges.

The House Committee, led by Jon Ginger Onwusibe, sent invitations on September 27, requesting the EFCC Chairman and the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service to appear on September 30 with all implicated officers. Other invitees include ACG Ben Rabbi Freedman, Ja’afaru Ahmed, Michael Anugwa, and Sikiru Adekunle.

“Though male, he has some female features, he has breasts and this is the original medical examination done by the facility's medical doctor.

“The admission board had to enter a meeting to discuss on the best practices and we arrived at the decision to put him in protective custody and he spent the 10 days in our P ward room 2 of the facility.

“During admission, there is what we call classification of inmates.

“In his case, it was peculiar and we had to take peculiar steps,” he stated.

The bribery allegations stem from Bobrisky's claim that EFCC officials demanded N15 million to drop money laundering charges, which was exposed by Very Dark Man on Instagram. Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in prison earlier this year for abusing the naira. The EFCC has since launched an investigation, and the Minister of Interior is also probing claims that Bobrisky bribed prison officials to avoid serving his sentence.

Activist Martins Otse alleged that Bobrisky, who pleaded guilty to abusing and defacing the naira and received a six-month prison sentence in April, didn't serve his time at the Nigerian Correctional Service. This scandal also implicated Femi Falana and his son, Folarin Falana, aka Falz.

According to leaked audio, Bobrisky claimed Falz negotiated a N10 million settlement to drop the case. However, Falz denied this allegation, stating Bobrisky contacted him for N3 million financial assistance to secure a spot in the Correctional Centre's VIP section.

It's worth noting that Bobrisky also denied allegations of bribery and special treatment during his EFCC saga, stating he served his term in full and didn't pay the EFCC N15 million. The controversy surrounding Bobrisky's imprisonment and alleged bribery continues to unfold.

Falz denied allegations of negotiating a settlement for Bobrisky, clarifying that Bobrisky sought N3 million financial assistance to secure VIP treatment in the Correctional Centre.

Falz and his father, Femi Falana, through their law firm, Falana and Falana's Chambers, issued a 24-hour ultimatum to VeryDarkMan, demanding he retract his statements.

In response, VeryDarkMan posted a video on social media, asserting he didn't defame Falz or his father. He maintained he merely reacted to the leaked audio shared on his platform, emphasizing his comments were based on available evidence.

VeryDarkMan's response highlighted the ongoing controversy surrounding Bobrisky's imprisonment and alleged bribery, sparking public debate on corruption and accountability within Nigeria's justice system.

Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo ordered an investigation into allegations of bribery within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) following revelations by social media personality Bobrisky. This probe led to the suspension of senior NCoS officers, specifically two implicated in the bribery scandal involving Bobrisky's N15 million claim.

As part of the investigation, the Minister called for a special investigative team headed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, to probe these allegations and submit a comprehensive report. The EFCC Chairman also set up a team to investigate the allegations.

The suspended officers are linked to the alleged misconduct and bribery scandal involving Bobrisky, who claimed to have bribed NCoS officials and EFCC officers with N15 million to drop money laundering charges against him.
