President Bola Tinubu made history on Thursday, October 24, by assigning portfolios to ministerial nominees before Senate screening, a first in Nigeria's current democratic dispensation. This unprecedented move was revealed in a letter presented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during the upper legislative chamber's session.

The seven new ministerial nominees and their designated portfolios are:

Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu: Minister of State for Foreign Affairs

Jumoke Oduwole: Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment

Nentawe Yilwatda: Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, replacing the suspended Betta Edu

Idi Mukhtar Maiha: Livestock Development

Yusuf Abdullahi Ata: State, Housing and Urban Development

Suwaiba Said Ahmad: State, Education 

This development follows President Tinubu's cabinet reshuffle on Wednesday, October 23, which led to the dismissal of five ministers. The new appointments were officially announced in a statement from the presidency after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

This restructuring also involves the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, and the replacement of the Niger Delta Ministry with the Ministry of Regional Development. Additionally, the Ministry of Sports Development has been scrapped, with its functions transferred to the National Sports Commission.

The cabinet reshuffle comes after 17 months of criticism regarding the competence and size of President Tinubu's administration. The changes aim to improve governance and fiscal responsibility, but some experts question their overall impact.
