Oct 30 Deadline for Ministry Handover, Merger

Those without incoming counterparts are expected to hand over to permanent secretaries...

Cabinet shake-up: President Tinubu's reshuffle brings changes. Outgoing ministers have until Oct 30 to complete handover.

The Federal Government has ordered all outgoing ministers to complete the handing over processes by October 30, following President Bola Tinubu's reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

President Tinubu's reshuffle led to the departure of five ministers and the appointment of seven new ones. Additionally, ten ministers were reassigned, and some ministries underwent restructuring. To ensure a smooth transition, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Senator George Akume issued a memorandum outlining the transition process.

Components of the Handover Process:

Preparation of Handover Notes: Outgoing ministers should prepare detailed handover notes, including information on ongoing projects, pending tasks, and key contact.

Transition Meetings: Meetings between outgoing and incoming ministers to facilitate knowledge transfer and address potential issues.

Documentation of Key Decisions: Outgoing ministers should document key decisions, actions, and deadlines to ensure continuity.

Introduction to Key Stakeholders: Outgoing ministers should introduce incoming ministers to key stakeholders, such as team members, clients, or vendors.

George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has issued directives regarding the transition of outgoing ministers. Those without incoming counterparts are expected to hand over to permanent secretaries, ensuring a smooth transfer of responsibilities.

The SGF's office is collaborating with the Head of Civil Service of the Federation to coordinate significant changes in ministry structures. Key developments include:

Merger of Ministries: The Ministry of Tourism will merge with the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy.

Ministry Wind-Down: The defunct Ministry of Sports Development will be replaced by the National Sports Commission.

Renaming and Expansion: The Ministry of Niger Delta Development will undergo renaming and expansion, with immediate effect. Relevant authorities and commissions have been notified.

To ensure seamless implementation, permanent secretaries of affected ministries must facilitate a smooth handover and forward copies of handover notes to the SGF's office for record-keeping purposes.
