Security forces in Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have recovered 12 bandit corpses following a recent operation.
Residents of Tokulo community in Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory, are shaken after discovering 12 bodies believed to be those of bandits on Tuesday morning, October 15. This unsettling find has left locals deeply concerned, as the area has experienced repeated attacks and violent incidents in recent months.
According to Jerry Alkali, the councillor representing Igu Ward, residents called him between 2 and 3 am on Monday, October 14, reporting terrifying sounds of gunshots in the area. By Tuesday morning, the bodies were still present, fueling fear and anxiety among community members.
The community's anxiety is understandable, given the history of attacks in the area. The gruesome discovery has heightened tensions, leaving residents on edge. As authorities investigate, residents await answers and reassurance.
“No one could afford to sleep at the time due to the tension caused by the development.
“It was later in the morning when some of them were heading to their farms that they sighted corpses lying on the ground outside the village along a road that leads to the Pmape community in Kagarko Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State,” he said.
Further insight came from a community member, who confirmed that the 12 bodies discovered were not locals. This implies that security forces may have intercepted and neutralized external bandits.
Tokulo has faced severe challenges due to persistent bandit attacks, leading to tragic losses among residents and security personnel. The community's experience underscores the urgency for enhanced security measures.
