Air Peace Raises Lagos-Abuja Ticket Prices to N200,000, Citing Economic Conditions, Leaving Passengers Scrambling
Effective November 1, 2024, Air Peace will implement a significant fare hike on its Lagos-Abuja route, with one-way tickets now costing N200,000. This move positions Air Peace as the most expensive domestic airline on this popular route.
Comparatively, other airlines offer more affordable options. Aero's fares range from N94,000 to N109,000, while Arik Air charges between N104,405 and N139,292. Ibom Air's prices fall between N124,000 and N133,000.
The sudden surge in airfares has resulted in travel disruptions, leaving numerous passengers stranded at airports and struggling to secure flights. The impact is particularly pronounced on the high-demand Lagos-Abuja and Abuja-Lagos routes, where available seats are scarce.
According to an anonymous Air Peace official, the fare increase is a direct response to Nigeria's deteriorating economic conditions. This development adds to the challenges faced by travelers and highlights the pressing need for affordable domestic air travel options.
“If you buy a ticket and see the breakdown, you will discover that we are bleeding as an aviation company and even the prices of running the business are almost getting out of control.
“Just as we all know, all these killing taxes go to the government, and businesses especially airlines have been left with no choice other than to do this, it is what it is.”
