FCTA Takes Action Against Abandoned Properties in Abuja - 3-Month Deadline for Development
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has given property owners in Abuja an ultimatum: develop your land within three months or risk demolition. This directive comes after a surge in shanties and unauthorized structures across the Federal Capital City.
Felix Obuah, Coordinator of the Abuja Municipal Management Council, explained that the FCTA's decision aims to address growing security concerns. Undeveloped properties have become hideouts for suspicious individuals, posing threats to residents' safety. To tackle this, the FCTA is taking a firm stance, warning property owners that failure to comply will result in revoked land titles and demolished structures.
Pointers:
Three-Month Deadline: Property owners must begin development within the specified timeframe.
Security Concerns: Undeveloped properties have become hideouts for individuals of questionable character.
Consequences of Non-Compliance: Land titles will be revoked, and structures will be demolished.
The FCTA's move is part of broader efforts to maintain order and ensure the city's master plan is respected. By addressing the issue of abandoned properties, the administration hopes to create a safer, more organized environment for Abuja's residents.
The statement read: “The FCT Administration has noted with concern the rapid expansion of shanties and squatters within uncompleted buildings and undeveloped plots across the Federal Capital City. The Administration has also observed that these buildings and plots are being used as hideouts by men of questionable character, thereby posing a serious security challenge to residents.
“In view of the foregoing, all owners of these abandoned and uncompleted buildings, as well as undeveloped plots, are hereby directed to immediately develop and secure the properties within three months from the date of this announcement.
“Failure to comply with this directive may result in appropriate actions, including the revocation of titles and the demolition of such abandoned structures.”
