American rapper Rich Homie Quan dies at 34, sparking an outpouring of tributes from the hip-hop world.
American rapper, Rich Homie Quan, who charted the Billboard Hot 100 with songs like “Type of Way” and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh),” died on Thursday at the age of 34.
The rapper died at his home in Atlanta, according to his family and a representative for the Fulton County morgue.
The cause of the untimely death has not been established.
He was due to perform in his hometown in a few weeks at Nick Cannon's Wild N Out alongside the likes of Wacka Flocka and Nardo Wick.
Rich Homie Quan, born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, launched his rap career in 2011. He gained widespread recognition with his hit single “Type of Way,” which peaked at No. 50 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, but another song reached No. 26.
By 2013, Rich Homie Quan had established himself as a prominent figure in Atlanta's hip-hop scene, with The New York Times praising him as part of the city's “rising generation of rappers.”
Tributes are pouring in for Rich Homie Quan, with celebrities like Lil Duval, Quavo, and Playboi Carti taking to social media to mourn the loss of the Atlanta rap legend, who passed away unexpectedly at 34 on Thursday.
Quavo took to Instagram to pay tribute to Rich Homie Quan, sharing a throwback photo of Migos and Quan in the studio. “May God be with us, never saw this being part of our journey,” he wrote.
Fellow rapper Jacquees also expressed his condolences on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Rest in Peace, my brother Rich Homie Quan. I love you for life. #RichGang.” He later shared a photo of the two, captioning it simply, “Legend.”
In his post, Boosie said he had just “talked to” Quan, hours before his death. “Never [gonna] forget yo smile n the way talked n of course yo music,” he wrote, later adding, “We got some good ass memories together n that go always bring a smile to my face.”
Playboi Carti shared a video and photo of the pair singing together in his Instagram Story, while Lil Duval posted a throwback photo with Quan.
“Rest in peace Rich Homie Quan,” wrote Lloyd Banks on Instagram. “I appreciate what you've contributed to the culture, condolences to his family & friends.”
Ralo shared a heartfelt post, reflecting on how he and Rich Homie Quan had settled their differences and found peace before Quan's untimely death.
“Real men have conversations that end conflicts before our lord lay us to rest,” he wrote. “I appreciate you for being a real man, father and brother in ending our beef before our meeting day with our lord.”
“I will extend my hand to your family for any help they may need,” he added.
