Salary Without Work? No Thanks, Says Kwara Gov's Aide

“I write this letter with humility and appreciation for the chance to serve. However, I can no longer continue in this role...”

Labaeka resigns as Kwara State Governor's Special Assistant, citing lack of clear role and inability to contribute meaningfully, betraying public trust and conflicting with his Islamic beliefs.

Renowned Islamic singer and cleric, Ibraheem Abdulhameed (aka Labaeka), has resigned as Special Assistant on Artiste Matters to Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdul Razaq.

Labaeka announced his resignation on Instagram on September 12, 2024, citing his inability to effectively carry out his duties due to a lack of clear responsibilities. Despite serving for one year and seven months, he had not been assigned specific tasks.

In his resignation letter, dated September 12, 2024, Labaeka expressed gratitude to the Governor for the opportunity to serve, but acknowledged that his inability to fulfill his role led to his decision to step down.

Labaeka stressed that his appointment was built on the foundation of public trust, and he couldn't in good faith continue to draw a salary without making meaningful contributions to the administration.

In his resignation letter, Labaeka expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve as Special Assistant, Artiste, in the governor's cabinet. After serving for 1 year and 7 months, he respectfully submitted his resignation, stating: “I write this letter with humility and appreciation for the chance to serve. However, I can no longer continue in this role.”

“Your Excellency, as you may recall, I was offered an appointment to serve as your Special Assistant, Artist, on 6th January 2023. I accepted the offer because I saw it as a call to service and an opportunity to showcase my talents. Regrettably, I have not been able to achieve any of these things. Aside from the fact that I don't have a specific schedule of duty, circumstances have not availed me the opportunity to perform my responsibilities maximally.

“Therefore, since my appointment is based on public trust. I cannot continue to break that trust by taking a salary for doing nothing. As an Islamic cleric. it is against my beliefs, and I haven't been at peace with myself.

“So I want my salary to stop immediately. I am grateful for the confidence reposed in me. and I hope that one day. I will be able to fully utilize my talents for the development of our state.”
