“We urge Nigerians to disregard this malicious statement and await a formal announcement on the pricing...”

Dangote Group denies selling petrol to NNPCL at N898 per litre, promises to end fuel scarcity in Nigeria with steady supply of quality products.

The Dangote Group has denied a claim made by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) that it purchased petrol from the Dangote Refinery at a price of N898 per litre.

In a statement released on Sunday night, Anthony Chiejina, Chief Branding and Communication Officer of the Dangote Group, refuted the assertion made by NNPCL spokesperson Olufemi Soneye, stating that the company does not sell petrol to NNPCL at the mentioned price.

“This statement is both misleading and mischievous, deliberately aimed at undermining the milestone achievement recorded today towards addressing energy inefficiency and insecurity, which has bedeviled the economy in the last 50 years.

“We urge Nigerians to disregard this malicious statement and await a formal announcement on the pricing by the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries appointed by President Bola Tinubu, which will commence on October 1, 2024, bearing in mind that out current stock of crude was procured in dollars.”

The Dangote Group clarified that it sells petroleum products to NNPCL in US dollars, resulting in significant cost savings compared to the company's current import expenses.

“With a lot of savings against what they're currently importing.”

The Dangote Group committed to providing a consistent and reliable supply of quality fuel, thereby resolving Nigeria's fuel scarcity issues, although the company did not reveal the specific price at which it sold petrol to NNPCL.
