Cholera Outbreak in Adamawa: 4 Dead, 36 Hospitalized - Authorities urge public to maintain hygiene practices to contain spread.




A recent cholera outbreak in Yola North Local Government Council, Adamawa State, has claimed four lives and left 36 others hospitalized.


Jibrin Ibrahim, Executive Chairman of the Council, confirmed the casualties during a visit to the Infectious Disease Control Centre in Yola on Sunday.


The outbreak, which occurred in Alkalawa, Ajiya, and Limawa wards, was attributed to contaminated water sources and flooding in the affected areas, according to Ibrahim.


Initially, 20 cases were reported, but the number later increased to 40, resulting in four fatalities, Ibrahim stated.


The Executive Chairman reported that many patients are now stable and receiving treatment from healthcare professionals, following prompt intervention.


He praised the rapid response of health workers, the Red Cross, and international partners in containing the outbreak, acknowledging their crucial role in mitigating the crisis.


Ibrahim urged the public to take preventive measures to halt the spread of cholera, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a clean environment, drinking safe water, and ensuring food is handled and consumed hygienically.
