Anambra Ministry of Women Affairs investigates pastor's alleged murder of wife, seeks justice and support from stakeholders and human rights activists, despite police claiming unawareness of incident.

The Anambra Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare has launched an investigation into the alleged murder of a woman by her pastor husband.

The ministry's media aide confirmed the investigation in a statement, identifying the deceased woman and her husband, a pastor, as the suspects.

The incident occurred on August 13, but was only reported to the ministry after the woman's family discovered the husband's alleged cover-up story about her death.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs called on stakeholders, women's groups, and human rights activists to join forces with the state government to ensure justice for the deceased woman.

In a surprising response, the Anambra Police stated that they had no knowledge of the incident, raising questions about the delay in reporting and investigating the crime.

“The deceased's uncle, from Abatete community, who led the family member to lay the complaint at the ministry, alleged that he got a call from her late niece's husband that her niece, fell from a four-storey building and died,” the statement reads.

“The husband of the late woman, hails from Nimo in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

“Seeking for justice at the office of the Commissioner for Women Affairs, the uncle of the deceased, noted that they discovered that their daughter did not fall as claimed by the husband, but was rather killed with a knife, stabbed on her neck and chest by her husband.

“He further revealed that their doubts were cleared after they went to the mortuary where the said husband had deposited their daughter's corpse and saw evidently that she didn't fall from any storey building as claimed by the husband.”
