JUPEB Exams Postponed Amid Protests

JUPEB exams suspended due to unrest...

JUPEB postpones 2024 exams due to nationwide protests, citing security concerns. The exams, initially set for August 5-16, have been delayed by two weeks.

The Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) has delayed its 2024 exams, which were originally set to take place next week, to a later date.

The JUPEB examinations were rescheduled due to the nationwide hunger protests that commenced on Thursday.

Professor Ademola Adeleke, JUPEB registrar, announced the postponement in a statement released on Friday in Lagos, citing security concerns in various states amid the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests.

The exams, initially set for August 5-16, have been delayed by two weeks, with new dates to be announced later.

“In view of the security situation in some states across the country and the extent to which the constraints on human and vehicular movement would affect the security of our supervisors who have to travel across state boundaries, we are compelled to announce a postponement of the 2024 JUPEB examination,” Adeleke said.

“This examination, therefore, will now take place from August 19 and end on Friday, August 30.

“A new examination timetable reflecting the new dates will be circulated as soon as possible.

“We plead that these JUPEB Foundation schools located in states where the protest has not created any security challenges and which are ready to conduct the examinations as initially scheduled, bear with us.

“This is to enable us to conduct the examinations simultaneously in all our partner and affiliate universities.”

The Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) is a national exam body established in April 2014 by a consortium of 10 universities, led by the University of Lagos, with Federal Government approval in December 2013.

JUPEB's primary role is to conduct standardized exams for students who have completed a minimum of one-year approved courses in university foundation or diploma programs, seeking direct entry into 200-level courses at Nigerian and partner foreign universities.
