President Bola Tinubu launches financial support initiative for Niger Delta youths, approving N50,000 monthly stipend for 10,000 beneficiaries to alleviate economic challenges, as part of a comprehensive strategy to address regional issues.
President Bola Tinubu has introduced a financial support initiative for Niger Delta youths, approving a monthly stipend of N50,000 for 10,000 beneficiaries. This move aims to alleviate the current economic challenges faced by the region's young population.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio made the announcement at the Niger Delta Sensitisation Conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on July 30. He revealed that the stipends would be disbursed through the NDDC Youth Intensive Scheme, with an initial duration of 12 months and potential for extension.
Akpabio emphasized that this initiative is a key component of President Tinubu's comprehensive strategy to tackle the Niger Delta's pressing issues, and he encouraged the public to refrain from participating in the planned nationwide protest on August 1, citing the administration's commitment to addressing their concerns through constructive measures like the stipend program.
“The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, will implement this scheme immediately to support 10,000 youths with N50,000 monthly to cushion the current hardship.
“We acknowledge the severe impact caused by oil and gas activities in the Niger Delta and are taking prompt action to address these issues. The economic challenges in our nation are known by President Tinubu and is already receiving required attention to address them,” he said.
Akpabio announced that President Tinubu has given the green light for the simultaneous commencement of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project from both ends, a move expected to create thousands of job opportunities for youths in the region.
According to Akpabio, the planned national protest on August 1 is being orchestrated by faceless individuals seeking to unleash chaos and destruction nationwide, and he urged citizens to reject this call to anarchy and instead embrace the government's efforts to address their concerns through tangible projects and initiatives.
