Expel Turkey from NATO, says Israeli foreign minister...

Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz demands Turkey's expulsion from NATO, likening President Erdoğan to Saddam Hussein and condemning his threats against Israel and support for Hamas.

In response to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's recent threats against Israel, Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz has called for Turkey's removal from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), citing Erdoğan's hostile rhetoric as a clear indication that Turkey is no longer aligned with the alliance's values and principles.

“Erdoğan has made Turkey a member of the Iranian axis of evil,” Katz said, adding that Turkey hosts Hamas.

Katz called on all NATO member states to “expel Turkey immediately.”

He said Turkey had massively violated NATO principles by “threatening to invade a democratic Western country without provocation.”

On Sunday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan issued a stark warning to Israel, threatening military intervention and citing Turkey's past involvement in conflicts such as Nagorno-Karabakh and Libya as a precedent for potential action against the Jewish state.

“Just as we entered Nagorno-Karabakh, just as we entered Libya, we will do the same with them,” the Turkish ruler said at an event of his ruling Justice and Development Party in Rize on the Black Sea.

Erdoğan's reference to Nagorno-Karabakh was a nod to Turkey's significant military involvement in the conflict, where Ankara provided crucial support to Azerbaijan, including drone technology and other military assets, ultimately contributing to a decisive victory.

Turkey, led by Erdoğan, has been actively supporting the internationally recognized government of Libya, providing significant military aid, including equipment and personnel, in a bid to bolster its position in the region.

Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz drew a scathing comparison between Erdoğan and Saddam Hussein, the former Iraqi dictator who was ousted and executed following US intervention. Katz's remark underscores the depth of concern and condemnation within Israel towards Erdoğan's aggressive foreign policy and authoritarian leadership style.

“Erdoğan is emulating Saddam Hussein and is now threatening an assault on Israel,” Katz stated on the X platform.
