NNPCL delivers 1 million barrels of crude oil to Port Harcourt Refinery, paving the way for the resumption of refining operations. The $1.5 billion rehabilitation project, nearing completion, aims to restore the refinery to full capacity, with a phased launch expected by the end of 2024.
Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) delivers 1 million barrels of crude oil to Port Harcourt Refinery, paving the way for the resumption of refining operations.
Following the plant's mechanical completion in December 2023, this will happen.
It was discovered that the NNPCL is preparing for a phased launch because of mounting demands to commence operations by the end of 2024.
The NNPCL is thinking about starting partial full refining operations in August.
The refinery received the one million barrels of crude oil in two shipments; the most recent one arrived last Wednesday.
The one million barrels of crude oil supplied to the Port Harcourt refinery can be refined into approximately 170 million liters of petrol and other petroleum products, with each barrel yielding around 170 liters of refined products.
The $1.5 billion Port Harcourt Refinery rehabilitation project is a comprehensive national endeavor, covering the entire scope of engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning activities.
The refinery has been undergoing rehabilitation for more than two years, and by December 31, 2023, the NNPCL promised to finish Phase One of the project, which includes the refinery's (Area 5) mechanical completion and flare start-up.
Mele Kyari stated in December that 77.4% of the restoration project had been finished and 84.4 percent of the refinery's Area 5 Plant, a crucial part of the facility, had been completed.
