Israel launches new airstrikes on Gaza, targeting Hamas leadership and military targets, following a deadly weekend attack that killed at least 90 Palestinians. The escalation sparks intense clashes and a growing humanitarian crisis in the region.

Israel has launched a new wave of airstrikes on Gaza, intensifying its military campaign against Hamas. The latest attacks on Monday, July 15, targeted the southern and central regions of the Gaza Strip, aiming to increase pressure on the militant group.

The weekend strike on Mawasi, a supposed safe zone near Khan Younis, left a trail of destruction and death. The Israeli strike demolished a heavily populated area, leaving displaced survivors in a state of uncertainty. The Israel Defense Forces claimed the target was a Hamas compound, not a tent camp.

The attack on Mawasi resulted in at least 90 fatalities and numerous injuries. The area had become a refuge for Palestinians seeking shelter. Israel targeted Mohammed Deif, the military leader of Hamas, who was accused of planning the October 7 attack on Israeli towns and villages that sparked the Gaza War.

The Israeli military has escalated its bombardment of central Gaza, targeting the ancient refugee camps of Al-Maghazi and Al-Bureij. An airstrike on a home in the Maghazi camp killed five Palestinians, and the air forces struck dozens of military targets throughout Gaza, killing several gunmen. Soldiers engaged in close combat with gunmen in Rafah and central Gaza.

Hamas forces clashed intensely with Israeli forces in the Yabna camp in Rafah. Meanwhile, the local municipality in Deir Al-Balah announced it could no longer provide drinking water to approximately 700,000 residents due to a fuel shortage, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the area.

A victim in Deir Al-Balah spoke out amidst the ruins of his family home, which was devastated by an Israeli bombardment that claimed the lives of his loved ones. Rescue crews and nearby residents combed through the debris to search for any survivors hidden behind the wreckage.

The victim described the terrifying moment the airstrike hit his family, saying: “My elderly mother was with me upstairs, then she went downstairs. Five minutes later, I managed to pull her out from under the debris. We also rescued my sister and her children from the rubble.

“Tragically, my mother, sister, and her children did not survive. The children were so young, one was just two and a half years old, and I fear the worst for the other two. I can only hope for their safety, God willing.”
