Ohanaeze Ndigbo mourns the loss of President General Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, who died on July 25, 2024, at 82, marking the second President General to pass away in quick succession.



Renowned elder statesman and President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has sadly passed away. His son, Jide Iwuanyanwu, announced his demise in a statement released on Thursday, July 25.


According to the statement, the 82-year-old leader succumbed to a brief illness in the early hours of Thursday, July 25. His passing marks the end of an era, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and contributions to the Igbo community.


“The Iwuanyanwu family of Umuohii Atta, in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, announces the demise of our patriarch, Engr Chief Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu- Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo,”
 the statement read.


“Chief Iwuanyanwu died on Thursday, July 25, 2024, after a brief illness. He was aged 82. Chief Iwuanyanwu before his death was President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide and President of Owerri Peoples Assembly.”


Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu's passing marks a somber milestone, as he becomes the second President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo to depart in rapid succession, leaving a void in the leadership of the organization.


He is survived by his loving wife, Lady Princess Frances Iwuanyanwu, and a large family, including many children and grandchildren, who will deeply miss his guidance and presence. The family will announce the funeral arrangements and burial details in due course, after making the necessary preparations.
