Flood devastates Jigawa community, over 100 houses collapse, residents displaced.
A devastating flood hit Kargo village in Garki Local Government Area of Jigawa State, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Properties worth millions of Naira were destroyed, and over 100 houses collapsed, displacing numerous residents.
The flood, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, was caused by a prolonged torrential rain. As a result, many affected individuals were forced to seek refuge in nearby hospitals, schools, and other facilities. Unfortunately, the flood also contaminated the community's water sources, exacerbating the crisis.
Dr. Haruna Mairiga, the Executive Secretary of Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), has assured the affected residents of Kargo village that the government will provide necessary support and assistance to mitigate their sufferings. During his visit to assess the damage, he directed his team to expedite the construction of an emergency drainage system to prevent future flooding.
Dr. Mairiga also warned the residents against consuming water from contaminated sources, advising them to seek immediate medical attention if they experience any health issues. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing their health and well-being during this challenging time.
The villagers expressed their gratitude for the Executive Secretary's visit and pledge of support, and urged the Jigawa State Government to urgently provide relief to the affected residents, including essential necessities like food, shelter, and medical care.
