80-year-old man arrested in Bayelsa for allegedly defiling 10-year-old girl, suspect faces justice amid outcry from gender advocacy groups, police pledge thorough investigation.

The Bayelsa State Police Command has detained an 80-year-old man, only known as Pa Stephen, in connection with a troubling occurrence in which it is claimed that he defiled a 10-year-old girl in the Otuokpoti community of Ogbia Local Government Area.

The culprit, who is allegedly a serial paedophile, was reportedly caught after a concerned community member provided a tip.

The girl's strange behavior and illness were noticed by the victim's foster mother, who subsequently came to light about the alleged abuse.

Gender advocacy organizations that are participating in the case and have denounced the alleged act include the Collins Cocodia Foundation, Reigneth Foundation, Starrz Safety Initiative, and Dise Ogbise Foundation.

The suspect has been transported to the state police headquarters in Yenagoa for additional investigation. It is said that the suspect has advanced pile and hernia.

This arrest is a positive step in the state's fight against sexual assault and child abuse.

The police have pledged to look into the situation in great detail and make sure justice is done.
