APC Gains in Ebonyi as Anyim, Others Defect

Former Senate President Pius Anyim leads mass defection of PDP, Labour members to APC in Ebonyi, praising Governor Francis Nwifuru's leadership and committing to support President Bola Tinubu's policies.



Pius Anyim, a former Senate President, was instrumental in getting numerous leaders of the state's opposition organizations, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).


Senator Obinna Ogba, a former senator and PDP candidate for governor in the general elections of 2023, and Chief Edward Nkwegu, a candidate for the Labour Party, were two of the individuals that joined the mass defection to the APC.


APC defectors included former Chairmen of Local Government Areas, members of the National and State Assemblies, and other opposition figures.


“The time I wanted this to happen, Umahi was not ready and the time, he wanted it, it didn't turn out the way we wanted. We however, thank God that it has worked smoothly as we all are presently under the same roof,” he said.


The defection, according to the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, was not only about him but also about the Ebonyi people because numerous consultations were held prior to a decision being made.


“We wanted to appreciate Governor Francis Nwifuru's great works and reconciling various political divides of the state, making them stay under one roof. We are aware of the enormous economic and socio-cultural challenges confronting the country and the need to patriotically support President Bola Tinubu to surmount the challenges.


“We intend to collaborate with all federal appointees from the state especially the Minister of Works, Umahi to support and step down President Tinubu's life uplifting policies to Ebonyi people,” he said.


Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the APC, praised Nwifuru for upholding the goals of his predecessor in expanding the APC throughout the state and southeast geopolitical zone.


“The APC is presently de-marginalising the southeast zone by placing it in the mainstream of national politics.


“The ministerial among other appointments given by President Tinubu to indigenes of the zone, massive infrastructural development in the zone among others attests to this fact,” he said.


Nwifuru gave the decampees credit for their audacious choice to join the APC and guaranteed them a suitable place inside the organization. intentions to expand the APC throughout the state and the geopolitical southeast.
