Woman Killed After Being Swallowed by Massive Snake in Indonesia [PHOTOS]
Indonesian woman dies from asphyxia after being swallowed alive by enormous snake
Residents discovered the woman's remains inside the giant python's belly after cutting it open, following reports that she had been eaten by the reptile.
On Thursday, June 6, 50-year-old Farida, a mother of four, disappeared while walking through a forest to sell food at a nearby market in the Indonesian town of Kalempang.
The python coiled itself around her, choking her before sinking its fangs into her leg and eating her whole.
When his wife Farida did not come home by dusk, Noni became concerned and informed the other villagers, who then started a search.
They found a large 20-foot-long python with a prominent stomach bulge laying in the underbrush the next day.
The distraught husband and a few villagers, fearing the worst, sliced through the thick skin with a machete.
Covered in slime, Farida was discovered trapped inside the snake's guts. Her bones were removed and brought to the Pitu Riawa area of Sidrap Regency, South Sulawesi province, Indonesia, for a religious burial.
Noni uttered: “I am forever sorry that I let my wife go out alone. If I had been with her that day, the snake would not have dared to touch her.
“I feel sorry for the suffering she went through. I am sorry for our family.”
“The victim's husband looked for his wife in the nearby forest area because she had not been home for a day,” stated Suardi Rosi, the head of Kalempang village, where Farida and her family resided.
“He found a snake with a large stomach. He immediately suspected that his wife had been eaten by the python.
“Several other villages then helped him to catch the python. The body of his wife was found in the stomach of a snake. She was taken away to his house before being buried.
“This has not happened before in our village. We have warned everybody to be careful when they walk through the woods. Women should be accompanied by someone.”
Large numbers of enormous reticulated pythons live in Indonesia's thick jungle, mainly free from the effects of urbanization, in contrast to neighboring Southeast Asian nations.
The most recent recorded instance of a human being eaten by a python took place in Indonesia in 2022. That time, 54-year-old Jahrah disappeared in the province of Jambi while collecting rubber from a plantation. Two days later, on Sunday morning, October 23, terrified residents found in a clearing among trees a massive python with a large bulge in its tummy.
Another woman suffered a same fate in 2018. On Muna Island in Sulawesi province, 54-year-old Wa Tiba, a mother of two, vanished while tending to her vegetable garden. Locals started a large search and rescue operation. Her sandals and machete were discovered a day later, next to a massive python with a protruding belly that was roughly thirty meters away.
