Enyimba FC gets fined N10 million by the NPFL for misbehaviour during their league match against Enugu Rangers.

Enyimba FC fined N10m by NPFL for misconduct during Enugu Rangers match. The club faces multiple penalties for violating various rules, including failure to ensure proper behavior, interfering with a live broadcast, and disrupting the match. Enyimba has 48 hours to accept the sanctions or face further penalties.

In response to Enyimba International FC's behaviour during Sunday, June 9's Match Day 35 match at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, the Nigeria Premier Football League, or NPFL, has levied a number of severe penalties against the team.

The NPFL Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, signed a letter to Enyimba on June 10th, in which the league listed several rule violations that Enyimba had committed at the unfortunate meeting.

Notably, Enyimba was judged to have violated Rule C9 for neglecting to guarantee the appropriate behavior of its officials, players, and supporters. The club was also cited for interfering with a live broadcast's transmission, which is against Rule B6.23.

Drama erupted in Enugu on Sunday, June 9, during the much awaited encounter between Enugu Rangers and the reigning champions Enyimba. A fan invasion forced the match to be abandoned well into stoppage time.

Center referee John Ojeleye gave the home team a penalty while there was still no goal in extra time. The game was called off as the opposing fans stormed the field in protest.

The letter stated in its decision on Monday, June 10 that Enyimba had broken Rule B13.18 by having members of the team and spectators hurl objects and intrude onto the playing field. Furthermore, it was determined that the club had violated Rule C1.1 by declining to play on account of the opponents' penalty, which was regarded as against fair play and sportsmanship and as likely to damage the reputation of the game.

Enyimba was also found guilty of violating Rule B13.24 by instigating the match's disruption and termination.

As a result, the club faces a number of severe penalties from the NPFL, such as: A N1 million punishment for neglecting to ensure the correct behavior of their team; a N5 million fine for interfering with a live broadcast; a N1 million fine for hurling things onto the playing pitch; a N1 million fine for entering the playing field without permission; an order that their opponent would forfeit three goals and three points for refusing to accept the penalty that was given to them, ruining the game and causing disruption; a N2 million punishment for interfering with the game and ending it early.

Enyimba has also been directed to locate and bring forward any further players or officials involved in the disruptive behavior that resulted in the game's cancellation for additional scrutiny and suitable penalties. The players who have been identified are Akanni Elijah (Jersey No. 10), Chibuike Nwaiwu (Jersey No. 27), and Eze Ekwutoziam (Jersey No. 6).

Enyimba has been given 48 hours by the NPFL to accept summary jurisdiction and the recommended sanctions, or elect to have a disciplinary panel handle the matter. Further penalties could be imposed for noncompliance or for submitting a baseless appeal.
