Euro 2024: France Held to Draw by Poland as Mbappe Makes Triumphant Return

Lewandowski Cancels Out Mbappe's Goal as Poland Secures Draw with France

France and Poland play out a 1-1 draw, with Kylian Mbappe scoring his first Euro goal and Robert Lewandowski equalizing from the penalty spot. Despite the draw, France finishes second in Group D and will face the winner of Group E in the next round, while Poland bows out of the tournament.

Kylian Mbappe made a triumphant return to the starting lineup, scoring his first-ever Euro goal while wearing a mask, but France was held to a draw by Poland, who had already been eliminated. Mbappe's penalty kick in the 56th minute was cancelled out by Robert Lewandowski's penalty kick in the 79th minute, leaving France needing all three points to secure top spot in Group D.

After a nose break, Mbappe made a comeback to the starting lineup and scored the first goal of the European Championships from the penalty spot. Ousmane Dembele was knocked down in the area by Poland's Jakub Kiwior, an Arsenal defender, allowing Mbappe to score flawlessly. However, France let their guard down, and Dayot Upamecano's awkward challenge gave Lewandowski a golden opportunity to respond with a spot-kick of his own.

Mike Maignan thought he had saved the day by stopping Lewandowski's shot, but he had strayed off his line, forcing a retake of the penalty. Lewandowski, Poland's captain, scored his fourth goal in the European Championships, matching the feats of Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo, by slotting into the corner.

Lukasz Skorupski won man of the match.
