FG declares Wednesday a public holiday in observance of Democracy Day.


Nigeria declares Wednesday, June 12, a public holiday to celebrate Democracy Day. FG urges citizens to reflect on the country's progress and unity, and looks forward to a brighter future for democratic governance.



Wednesday, June 12, has been declared a public holiday by the Federal Government of Nigeria in observance of Democracy Day.


The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Aishetu Ndayako, released a statement on Tuesday, June 11, in which the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, congratulated Nigerians on their celebration.


The statement said, in part, “As we mark another Democracy Day in the history of our dear country, let us all reflect on the efforts of our founding fathers and ensure that Nigeria remains a united, secured, peaceful and indivisible entity.”


He exhorted Nigerians to stick to the fundamentals of democratic governance.


Tunji-Ojo also underlined President Bola Tinubu's commitment to carrying out measures that will boost security and the country's economy.


“The minister also called on Nigerians and friends of Nigeria to appreciate the progress that has been made, and look forward to a better future for Nigeria's Democracy,” the statement added.
