President Bassirou Faye of Senegal receives citizenship in Abuja from Wike
The President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has been granted honorary citizenship of Abuja by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
On behalf of President Bola Tinubu, Wike welcomed the president of Senegal when he arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Thursday, May 16.
The Senegalese President was also given the symbolic key to the city by the FCT minister.
Faye is visiting President Tinubu in Nigeria on a formal visit.
The key, according to Wike, honored the close affinity and friendly ties between Senegal and Nigeria by bestowing upon the president of Senegal all the rights and advantages of a citizen.
Faye had an earlier meeting with President Tinubu, who is the head of the ECOWAS, the Economic Community of West African States, Authority of Heads of State and Government.
Since he became the youngest president in Senegalese history in April, his travel to Nigeria was historic as it was his first time there.
Remember that on Tuesday, April 2, Faye took office as the new president of Senegal, having previously served time in prison.
Along with notable opposition leader Ousmane Sonko, he was released as part of a political amnesty declared by departing President Macky Sall.
With his election win, Faye took on his first experience holding public office.
