House of Reps to Scrutinize Procurement Process for Lagos-Calabar Highway
Reps will look into the procurement process for the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project
The procurement processes for the coastal highway connecting Lagos and Calabar will be closely examined by the House of Representatives.
This decision was made in response to a resolution of urgent national importance that Austine Achado of the All Progressive Congress, APC, introduced at Thursday's plenary session. Achado represents the Gwer East/Gwer West district of Benue State.
Achado stressed that the contract's award was not approved by the National Assembly and did not follow proper process.
As a result, the House adopted a resolution designating its committees on procurement and works to conduct the inquiry into this issue.
The Federal Government will provide N2.75 billion in compensation to property owners impacted by the demolition required to build the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, which would run from channel 0 to channel 3, according to information released by Minister of Works David Umahi on May 1.
On the same Wednesday, he disclosed this information during a stakeholders' meeting in Lagos State.
Remember when Umahi stated in April that May will see compensation for the impacted property owners on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project?
The minister claims that even though the Federal Government owns the right of way, the landowners will still receive payment.
This was addressed by Umahi to property owners following a project inspection in Lagos State.
