Fubara/Wike: Governor Stands by Assembly Visit, Vows to Renovate Complex
Governor justifies trip to Rivers Assembly, vows complicated renovation
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara provided explanations for his visit to the State House of Assembly's residences.
Fubara visited the residential quarters on Thursday, May 9, to conduct an on-site evaluation of the structures' state in preparation for potential rehabilitation work aimed at restoring their status and making them habitable.
A communiqué to Governor Nelson Chukwudi from the Chief Press Secretary detailed his visit.
Fubara claimed that the Assembly chambers were state property under his jurisdiction and would receive renovations with the election of a new speaker.
He said, “Are the assembly quarters not part of my property? Is there anything wrong in going to check how things are going on there?
“You are aware of the developments. We have a new speaker, and I went there to see for myself how things are.
“There might be a few things I might want to do there for the good of our people.”
The governor said he came to have a better understanding of what needed to be done to make the quarters suitable for lawmakers after taking a tour of the facility.
On Wednesday, May 8, pro-Fubara legislators chose Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, the representative of Bonny Constituency, as the factional Speaker and Hon. Sokari Goodboy, the representative of Ahead East, as the factional House Leader.
