WOLE Arisekola advises Tinubu to dissolve the administration of the Discos and bring in new investors to address the ongoing power issue

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been encouraged by Wole Arisekola, to dissolve the management of all energy distribution businesses, or Discos, and bring in new investors.

This is against the backdrop of the decades-long power outage that Nigerians have experienced, especially the recurring national grid collapse, and it appears like the darkness will never stop.

Arisekola stated that none of the discos had made any investments in replacing outdated, worn-out machinery from the NEPA era and that they only depend on subsidies in addition to making money off of the meager electricity that they provide to customers.

“New investors must demonstrate financial capacity to invest in providing transformers, repairing old, dead tension wires, and ensuring efficient power distribution.

“While power generation is no longer the main issue, distribution and transmission must be addressed," he said.

“Nigerians are willing to pay for the power they consume, but they oppose paying for darkness. It often takes days for Discos to rectify faults that should be fixed within minutes.”
