EPL: Iwobi Breaks Mikel Obi's Record For Most Minutes A Nigerian Has Played In The Premier League
ALEX Iwobi, a midfielder for the Fulham football club, has broken the record held by John Mikel Obi for the most minutes played by a Nigerian in the English Premier League (EPL).
Iwobi played the full ninety minutes in his team's most recent 1-0 home loss to Newcastle United, increasing his Premier League minutes total to an amazing 16,289. The previous record, 16,218 minutes, was held by John Mikel Obi, a former defensive midfielder for Chelsea.
Alex Iwobi made his Premier League debut on October 31, 2015, with the London-based Arsenal football club. Following a fairly fruitful time with the team, he moved to Everton FC in the Premier League in 2019 before joining Fulham the previous summer.
The Super Eagles midfielder has accrued significant playing time and has made frequent appearances for his individual teams. The 27-year-old has made 24 league appearances for Fulham this season alone, tallying five goals. He has made 247 league appearances overall, scoring 22 goals in those games.
The former record holder, Mikel Obi, had a legendary Premier League career. He played for Chelsea for 11 seasons and won multiple trophies, including two Premier League crowns, four FA Cups, and a Champions League crown. Obi made 249 Premier League appearances in all, contributing 10 assists and one goal.
