Troops Rescue Pregnant Chibok Girl With Kids After 10 Years In Captive
Troops manage to “rescue” a Chibok girl and her three children after ten years in captivity
According to reports, one of the Chibok schoolgirls kidnapped by terrorists in 2014 has apparently been freed by Nigerian Army troops.
The girl, Lydia Simon, was reportedly saved by soldiers from the 82 Division Task Force Battalion in the Ngwoza LGA of Borno, according to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency journal that focuses on the Lake Chad region.
According to the publication, on April 17, Lydia, who is five months pregnant, and her three children were rescued.
She was one of the 276 pupils taken in April 2014 from the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok.
Over 100 schoolgirls have been released in groups following discussions over the last ten years, while some have managed to flee from their captors.
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) reported in April 2023 that approximately ninety-three schoolgirls remained in captivity.
Even though the federal government had pledged to see to it that the remaining schoolgirls were freed, several of them had been held captive for ten years.
