Sanwo-Olu Appoints Tourism Ambassador London To Lagos Solo Traveler With Car
Sanwo-Olu names her tourism ambassador and gives a car to a single passenger from Lagos to London
The 28-year-old travel content creator Pelumi Nubi has been named the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's tourism ambassador.
The information was disclosed on Monday, April 8 by Jubril Gawat, the governor's Senior Special Assistant for New Media.
Nubi, who goes by the hashtag #peluminubi, just got back from an amazing solo road adventure that took her from London, England, to Lagos, Nigeria, on Sunday.
Her journey began on January 30, 2024, and it was fraught with difficulties, one of which was a car accident she suffered on Monday, March 25, in Liberia, a day after entering the nation.
In spite of this setback, Nubi never wavered in her resolve.
She shared scenes from inside an ambulance and subsequently from a hospital bed as she described her experiences on Instagram, asking her fans for prayers and support.
Lagos State officials were drawn to Nubi because of her resilience and sense of adventure.
The state government's Special Adviser for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Idris Aregbe, and Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, welcomed her enthusiastically when she arrived at the Nigeria-Benin Republic border.
Nubi received a number of gifts from Governor Sanwo-Olu in appreciation for her incredible journey and her role in promoting tourism, including a brand-new car, a new house in Lagos, a personalized license plate, and—most importantly—a substantial donation of her expedition vehicle to the J Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History.
Nubi's journey is proof of her tenacity and fortitude, even in the face of greater challenges like a 24-hour border delay in Liberia because she was operating a right-hand car.
She has expressed gratitude to her internet community for their prayers and support throughout the way, and she has relied on them for inspiration and hope when things have been difficult.
The selection of Pelumi Nubi to serve as the Lagos State tourism ambassador is a testament to her young inventiveness and spirit of adventure, encouraging people to discover new places and fostering cross-cultural understanding.
