8 Ugandan artists have been jailed for saying the President's address “was too long”

The incident happened during former prime minister Amama Mbabazi and his wife Jacqueline Mbabazi's 50th wedding anniversary celebration.

Reports state that the band members yelled something along the lines of “over speaker, we're tired, leave the microphone” while speaking in the Runyankole dialect of the area.

They were arrested as a result of this complaint, which was viewed as insulting to the president.

The singers are accused of disrespecting the president and are being detained at the Kampala Central Police Station in the interim.

This episode follows President Museveni's media attention-grabbing appointment of family members to important positions in the administration.

The succession plans within Uganda's ruling National Resistance Movement party have come under scrutiny due to these selections.

There have been sporadic controversies during Lieutenant-General Kainerugaba's term, primarily because of his social media activity that has affected diplomatic ties.

First Lady Janet Museveni, the wife of President Museveni, was also named as the new Minister of Sports and Education.

Even though she has a wealth of experience fighting for social justice and working on HIV/AIDS and poverty initiatives, this move has provoked debates on social media about her suitability to address the issues facing Uganda's educational system.
