Police Arrest 2 Over Torturing Relative To Death In Anambra
TWO people have been taken into custody by the Anambra State Police Command in relation to the death of a 60-year-old man in Nza Ozubulu, within the state's Ekwusigo Local Government Area.
The man, only known as Kenneth, was brutally attacked over a property dispute by some of his relatives and vigilante group members.
Reportedly, the deceased sold a family water tank in order to settle some family issues, which reportedly prompted his younger brother to capture him with the help of vigilante agents.
The victim was restrained and subjected to severe beatings by the vigilantes that his sibling had recruited.
An insider in the community revealed, “The incident occurred a few days ago, as the man was accused of selling their family water tank. His younger brother enlisted the help of about five vigilante operatives who proceeded to beat him mercilessly.
“They bound his hands and repeatedly struck him with sticks and other weapons until he lost consciousness. They abandoned him upon realizing he was no longer breathing.”
The insider went on to say that because the killers have threatened to avenge their father's death, the deceased's wife and kids are living in fear and are being intimidated.
The state police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the event on Friday, stating that one vigilante officer and a deceased person's relative had been taken into custody.
Ikenga promised openness in the case's handling while reassuring the public that extensive investigations are under progress.
He emphasized that no information will be missed and that as the inquiry goes on, updates will be given.
