Owolabi Olakulehin, a former federal senator, has been approved by kingmakers as being qualified to succeed to the Olubadan of Ibadanland's throne.

The Otun Balogun, Abimbola Ajibola, had said Olakulehin was unfit to rule, casting doubt on the 84-year-old former military officer's health.

The Olubadan-in-council declared Olakulehin qualified to become the 43rd monarch of Ibadanland on Friday during a meeting held at the Olubadan's Oja-Oba palace.

Ajibola, who had criticized Olakulehin, was conspicuously absent from the meeting, according to NAN, which lists eleven Olubadan-in-council members present.

Rashidi Ladoja, Otun Olubadan and a former governor of Oyo, spoke following the meeting and stated that the governor will be contacted by letter to ask for his approval of the council's decision.

Olalekan Balogun, the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadan, passed away on March 14 at the age of 81.

The deceased's younger brother, Kola Balogun, reported that he passed away at University College Hospital (UCH) after a “slight malaria fever.”
