No intention To Impeach Akpabio — Senator Plang
THE implication that there was a plot to remove Senate President Godswill Akpabio from office has been refuted by Senator Diket Plang, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Labor Employment and Productivity and vice chairman of the Committee on Federal Character.
Plang, who claimed that no one was thinking along those lines, noted that there were factors in his election as Senate President and added that he was not chosen at random but rather under particular circumstances that took into account the desires and quirks of Nigerians.
Senator Plang stated to reporters in Jos that all national political positions were chosen to represent the nation's geopolitical regions.
He said, “When there are issues, you raise them for a rethink and future correction. Nobody will remove the Senate President; he is stable. We elected him, and there are variables for that election. The North West has the deputy Senate President, the North East has the Vice President, the North Central has the SGF, and the South has the Senate President.
“These balances are there for stability; if everybody is involved, there will be trust, and people will work harder. I just want to assure you that the 10th Senate is a people's senate and a focus senate. The Senate is willing to work with the executive for the purpose of moving the nation forward.
“Luckily, we have executives who know the workings of legislators; the President was a former senator, and his wife was a former senator, a vibrant one, for that matter. The Vice President was a senator, and the Chief of Staff was also a former Speaker of the House of Representatives. The SGF was also a Senator, so when we are shouting, they should know what we mean. So, there should be synergy and understanding.”
He went on to say that no region of the nation is left out in the grand scheme of things and refuted the false and misleading assumption held by some that the Northern Senators were not comfortable with the Senate President.
“All equations are favorable to every part of the country, if you are interested in something, don't bring sentiment into it.
“We should support one another to succeed. Lawal has a successful tenure, and our brother and uncle from the North Central, Senator David Mark, had a successful tenure as well. We have a duty to support the South South Senate President to succeed as well.
“We, the Northern Senators, are deeply involved in what is happening in the Senate. There is no crisis or any division in the Senate; this insinuation is just a figment of the imagination of those who want to cause a crisis in the Senate.”
Regarding the nation's economic difficulty, Senator Plang stated that President Tinubu is extremely worried and is working nonstop to improve the situation and restructure the economy.
The senator from Plateau Central revealed that he will be distributing 600 bags of maize, 150 bags of beans, and 300 bags of Guinea corn to the less fortunate residents of his senatorial constituency.
“All these were bought from the farmers within the senatorial zone with the aim of empowering them and promoting them so that money can circulate among them.”
